/etc/net Linux network configuration system

/etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for:

• configuration profiles
• interface name management
• removable devices
• full iproute2 command set
• interface dependencies resolution
• QoS configuration framework
• firewall support

/etc/net provides support for the following interface types:

• Ethernet
• WiFi (WEP/WPA)
• IPv4/IPv6 tunnels
• PSK IPSec tunnels
• VLAN
• PLIP
• Ethernet bonding and bridging
• traffic equalizer
• usbnet
• PPP (PPtP, PPPoE, GPRS)
• DVB (SkyStar-2, Pent@NET, Pent@VALUE)
• Bluetooh (BNEP)
• OpenVPN

Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be added without overall design changes. /etc/net consists of core scripts (stable) and GUI configurator (abandoned). Both parts are licensed under GPL. More information is available via:

/etc/net scripts, 0.9 (main) branch version 0.9.7, source (ChangeLog) old versions and other files

2008-07-13: /etc/net scripts version 0.9.7 is a regular maintenance release.

2008-04-10: /etc/net scripts 0.9.6 released with maintenence updates on board.

2007-09-27: /etc/net scripts 0.9.3 released. There were some release announcements lost in the way, but this shouldn't be a big issue.
